How To: Pray the Miraculous 54 Day Rosary Novena

Months ago I wrote a blog post The 54 Day Rosary Novena . . . Whew! expressing my initial experience with praying this beautiful and arduous rosary novena. The post gives an overview of how the 54 Day Rosary novena came to be. A labor of love, the Miraculous 54 Day Rosary novena cultivates virtue and the fruits of the Holy Spirit with each Hail Mary and bead that becomes a crown of love and virtue placed upon Our Lady’s brow.

I find myself again amid the early stages of the 54 Day Rosary Novena. A place I had not imagined I would be again so soon. Life has an unexpected and expected way of happening. I decided to cling to Our Lady and the hope of her intercession instead of my own control.

But how does a person pray to 54 Day Rosary Novena? Do I just pray 54 Rosaries or 1 Rosary over 54 Days? Are there specifics prayers or format that make the Rosary Novena distinct from praying the Rosary? Yes and Yes.

THE OVERVIEW: 6 Novenas Total

54 Days: 1 Rosary per day

The Mysteries of Rosary: The Joyful Mysteries, The Sorrowful Mysteries, & the Glorious Mysteries. (The Luminous Mysterious were not yet revealed at the time of the 54 Day Rosary novena and subsequent format.)

Day 28-54: Thanksgiving (regardless of whether your petition(s) have been “answered” or not.)

THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES OF THE HOLY ROSARY

Prayer before the recitation: Sign of the cross. Hail Mary.

In petition (first 27 days): Hail, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, my Mother Mary, hail! At thy feet I humbly kneel to offer thee a Crown of Roses, snow white buds to remind thee of thy joys, each bud recalling to thee a holy mystery, each 10 bound together with my petition for a particular grace. O Holy Queen, dispenser of God’s graces, and Mother of all who invoke thee, thou canst not look upon my gift and fail to see its binding. As thou receivest my gift, so wilt thou receive my petition; from thy bounty thou wilt give me the favor I so earnestly and trustingly seek. I despair of nothing that I ask of thee. Show thyself my Mother!

In thanksgiving (last 27 days): Hail, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, my Mother Mary, hail! At thy feet I gratefully kneel to offer thee a Crown of Roses snow white buds to remind thee of thy joys each bud recalling to thee a holy mystery; each ten bound together with my petition for a particular grace. 1. In doing the novenas, is it 15 decades on each day of the set of 27days? Making ( 15 ×27 )2 = 810 decades. Am asking if I should on a particular day pray the joyful, sorrowful and glorious mysteries and other specified prayers for the whole days? Please clarify me, I don’t want to make any mistakes. Thank you.

    1. Hi Rebecca! It’s 5 decades per day (either the Joyful/Sorrowful/or Glorious mysteries per day.)
Day 1: Joyful Mysteries + specified Joyful mysteries prayers
Day 2: Sorrowful Mysteries + specified Sorrowful msyteries prayers
Day 3: Glorious Mysteries + specified Glorious mysteries prayers
Day 4: Joyful Mysteries + specified Joyful mysteries prayers
Day 5: Sorrowful Mysteries, etc. etc.
The cycle repeats for all 54 days. I hope this helps clarify! I can tell you are trying to get the prayers right. Even if you make mistakes God and Our Lady understands that too. God bless!

  2. Please I would like you to include the Luminous Mysteries in this 54 day Rosary Novena since The Church has given us this mysteries. How about that?

    1. Hi, Rebecca! That is a legitimate commentary of the 54 Day Rosary Novena as the Luminous mysterious have been given to us. The 54 Day Rosary novena was established before the Luminous mysteries existed which is why the Luminous mysterious aren’t included (nor the prayers and meditations added to the devotion’s format.) Maybe sometime in the near future, this will change. God bless, Hannah

    1. Hi, Clare! Good questions. Praying a 20 decade rosary is a beautiful gift and manner of praying the rosary. The purpose of the 54 Day Rosary novena is meant to spread across the 54 days because allows the person praying the 54 Day Rosary novena to strive, labor, and toil in completing 9 rosary novenas over 54 days. It’s an act of love and perseverance. May God bless you and keep you! -Hannah

I want to believe, and to have faith, but my mind and emotion is resisting it. also, there are times when I feel the comfort of just being dead.

I’m already on my 48th day. What should I do. Finish up and look for a rose and drop or what?
    Pls advice me.

Whether you chose to include or not include the Luminous mysteries or roses, your intent is authentic and God & Our Lady knows that. You did a great job making it through the rosary novena. 13. My name is Vivienne. I started this novena early this year when I serendipitously stumbled upon this blog while looking for a different novena. I used it a lot to guide me since it was my very first time to do it. Granted that it was tough to keep up especially in the first few weeks and towards the end, I stuck through all 54 days. I am happy to say Mother Mary granted all the petitions I made in very different surprising ways! And is still working miracles in my life. Not all at once or at the same time but I have had an answer to all my petitions and my faith in God’s mercy and faithfulness has increased tenfold.

I want to start it again this week mostly in thanksgiving and to ask for God’s guidance and favour in my life and family’s. Thank you very much for this post. I am a living proof and testimony that the Novena does work. I have seen God’s miraculous power in my life.

His office called today stating I need a filter placed near my heart at least a month prior to my actual surgery. This is why no date for my surgery has been set. I am nervously waiting to have this surgery and to move forward with my life. I started this novena last week and I am finding great comfort in it. I will complete the Novena on November 18th. Additional prayers are more than welcomed. My family, especially my daughter, also need comforting prayers. God bless and thank you in advance.

Do you know if it is possible to break it up in the day (e.g begin in the morning and finish it in the afternoon) or should it be prayed at one set time? Thank you so much for this article, God bless!

  18. Hi there. Thanks for posting this 54 day novena. I just read through the comments and saw that we are to pray the joyful mysteries on day one, sorrowful on day 2 and glorious on day 3. I had accidentally been praying the old daily order of mysteries (Monday, Thursday and Saturday:joyful, Tuesday and Friday:sorrowful, and Wednesday and Sunday:glorious. I am no professional but I am sure it’s ok and can just adapt from now on in the way you listed. However I can’t figure out how praying for 54 days makes 9 novenas. Doesn’t 9×6=54? So wouldn’t that make 6 novenas? Would we not need to pray 81 days to make 9 novenas? No one else has commented on this so I am sure I am missing something but, being a bookkeeper, when the math doesn’t add up, I keep trying to figure it out ☺️ Thanks. Janelle.

  19. Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been speaking about the 54-day Rosary Novena often lately (and praying it myself) and this guide has been a wonderful resource. God bless! I’m from Oregon. Keep spreading God’s love and joy where it’s needed most!
