How to: Pray the Immaculate Conception Chaplet of the 10 Evangelical Virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary

In the honor of the Month of May or the Month of Mary, I wanted to share a Marian prayer that my Mom and I discovered during our preparation for Marian Consecration through Fr. Micheal Gaitley’s, MIC “33 Days to Morning Glory.” This meditation on the evangelical virtues of Our Lady provides a deeper insight into the inner & outward disposition of Mary, the Mother of God. Her virtuous example helps us to strive for holiness & sanctification.

Written during the 1500s by the co-founder of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary now called Annunciades, St. Joanne de Valois (1464-1505) wrote a chaplet based off Blessed Gilbert Nicolas, OFM, also known as Gabriel Maria’s (1460-1532) Rule of the Ten Virtues of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary.

Here is a link to an article covering more in-depth the beautiful history of this Marian Chaplet & meditation on the evangelical virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary https://padrimariani.org/en/r_pray_virtues/

Make the Sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Pray 1 Our Father:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Pray a Decade: [1 decade Includes: 10 Hail Mary’s, 1 Glory Be, End of Decade Prayer, repeat.]

Pray 10 Hail Mary’s:

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God… [insert… ex: most pure]… pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

After the words “Holy Mary, Mother of God…”:, insert one virtue for each of the Hail Mary’s, in the following order:

Most pure, (Mt 1:18, 20, 23; Lk 1:27,34)
Most prudent, (Lk 2:19, 51)
Most humble, (Lk 1:48)
Most faithful, (Lk 1:45; Jn 2:5)
Most devout, (Lk 1:46-7; Acts 1:14)
Most obedient, (Lk 1:38; 2:21-2, 27)
Most poor, (Lk 2:7)
Most patient, (Jn 19:25)
Most merciful, (Lk 1:39, 56)
Most sorrowful, (Lk 2:35)

Pray 1 Glory Be:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

End of Decade Prayer:

V. In Your Conception, O Virgin Mary, You were Immaculate.
R. Pray for us to the Father whose son, Jesus, you brought forth into the world.

Pray: 9 other decades.

Concluding Prayer (Let Us Pray):

Let us pray.
Father, You prepared the virgin Mary to be the worthy mother of Your Son. You let her share beforehand in the salvation Christ would bring by His death, and kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception. Help us by her prayers to live in Your Presence without sin. We ask this in the Name of Jesus the Lord. R. Amen.

V. The Virgin Mary’s Immaculate Conception
R. Be our Health and our Protection.

Sign of the Cross.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
